Global Warming & Climate Change Impacts

We are motivated to help communicate this important message to the general public. How will the current anthropogenic global warming observed at an unprecedented rate impact your location, your assets and your plans in the future?

Integrated climate-warming trend reports (PDF files) are prepared for various locations in Australia and in the world using the new NASA Earth Exchange Global Daily Downscaled Projections dataset (NEX-GDDP, 2015; ~12 terabytes in file size), which was derived from the runs of 21 advanced Global Climate Models under two greenhouse gas emissions scenarios.

The NEX-GDDP dataset has been widely used for studies of climate change impacts and increasing public understanding of a rapidly warming climate. We analyse and compare average daily max and min temperature projections (by year or by month) from eight independently-developed global climate models:

  • Australia: CSIRO-MK3.6.0 and ACCESS1.0 climate models

  • North America: GFDL-CM3 and CCSM4 climate models

  • Europe: CNRM-CM5 and MPI-ESM-MR climate models

  • Asia: BNU-ESM and MIROC5 climate models

For Australia, we choose 559 Local Government Areas and the December (the first month of summer in Australia in the Southern Hemisphere) temperatures for making location profile reports on climate-warming trends. For each location, consistent warming TRENDS across all eight global models have been observed. It is reasonable to project that the harsh warming climate in the future will make those natural hazards (e.g. heatwaves, bushfires and drought) directly driven by higher temperatures even worse, on this driest inhabited continent!

We also develop and distribute customised reports for clients who hold unique exposure locations, usually via Web APIs.
